A Better Understanding and Possibilities of PoE

Presenter: Greg Ortt LC, MIES, CPTED
Greg’s talk will give an overview of lighting within the PoE landscape, how PoE lighting works within the IEEE 802.03 Ethernet standard, and some NEC and UL considerations with PoE. He’ll discuss how PoE can lay the wired foundation of the possibilities of the internet of Things (IoT) and where it can help take us in the future.

Greg Ortt, LC, MIES, CPTED
With over 32 years of experience, Greg Ortt has established himself with diverse skills in the lighting industry. Greg has taught extensively throughout the U.S and is a frequent speaker at industry events. From the fundamentals of light to industrial and exterior applications, Greg has proven himself to be an effective trainer and educator.

Greg serves on multiple committees of the IESNA. He teaches a course on outdoor lighting every year at the annual IESNA Street & Area Conference. He is a presenter at LightFair and has become the lighting speaker for CPTED, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. His audiences include architects, engineers, lighting designers, design and build contractors, electrical distributors and national accounts. Greg is a regular instructor for college and engineering classes.

He holds the LC certification from the NCQLP, is an active member of the Illuminating Engineering Society, is certified in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design and is a certified trainer for Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Effective People. As a Lighting Solutions Specialist, Greg teaches in the Lighting Solutions Center located in Greenville, South Carolina.
